Depression is an illness, and like any illness, it attacks mind, body, and spirit. In order to fight depression, you need to heal the whole person. Your doctor can help you fight depression with medication. Your therapist can help you by offering empathy and new ways of thinking about old problems. What can you do to help yourself?
A self affirmation practiced repeatedly every day could help you keep a positive perspective. Here are some examples:

Fight depression by buying healthy, appealing foods that require little or no preparation: soups, fruit, string cheese, yogurt, whole-grain cereal, etc. If you can't manage to eat full meals, you can still get a good portion of the calories you need daily from nutritious snacks and light meals. If you tend to overeat when depressed, better to have the healthy stuff around for grazing. You'll be less likely to reach for the box of donuts.
People who feel depression always have something that buried in their heart and they don’t like to tell other people. If you are troubled by many trifles and don’t have any good ideas on solving them. It’s easy for you to get into depression. So my advice here is to go to bed to have a good sleep without thinking anything. After the enough sleep, you will feel better than before.

It’s a wise solution for you to tell your depression to your friend. Maybe they cannot entirely understand your feeling; at least you can gain emotional support from them. Depression is not like a broken arm or a headache which most people have experienced, so you don’t have to expect everyone to understand you. Just telling them and you will get released.
Take time out to be with people who care for you. Go out for an evening with a group of friends. You don't have to talk about yourself, but simply socialising and being with a circle of people who know you and are there for you will give you a satisfying feeling and help to boost your mood.
